September marks a full year since we launched Craft Coffee Club, and we would like to say a huge thank you to all of our members who have been on the journey with us.

Over the past 12 months, we’ve featured coffee from 11 incredible roasters with Django featuring twice! We’ve bought our subscribers coffees from 16 different countries, all the way from Colombia to China, and through our commitment to giving back, we’ve planted over 2,000 trees with One Tree Planted, and 40 water pumps installed with WaterAid.

Our featured treats are always a big hit too! We’ve worked with over 30 up and coming British artisan brands over the past year. Tasty favourites from Joe & Seph, Mallow & Marsh and Mr Filbert’s to name a few. Our subscribers support for our charities, these independent British brands, our coffee farmers and our independent roasters is an amazing way our members are making a small difference to the global community.

We’re really excited about the future – despite the challenges we all face as we work through the COVID-19 pandemic. But enough about all that, let’s take a look at what our subscribers were able to enjoy in this month’s tasty and incredible Craft Coffee Club box!

Foxy Coffee With An Organic Twist

Like always, our subscribers were able to enjoy an abundance of fantastic treats and two outstanding coffees in September’s box, all of which went down a right treat. We had a marvellous roaster this month, Wolfox, who produces 100% organic beans, and we even featured our very first Guatemala roast, which was incredible, if we say so ourselves. So, what else could our subscribers enjoy this month we here you ask? Well, take a look and try not to drawl:

Wolfox Organic Coffee Roasters

The heart of Wolfox lies within the obsession to pioneer advanced coffee profiles that bring you an enhanced and memorable experience with every cup of coffee. Wolfox believes that coffee is not just a beverage, but in fact, a social ritual that allows us to grow as a community. Through this, Wolfox aims to support those that help this ritual to take place, and it is one of the many reasons why they source organic and ethical coffee.

Wolfox focuses on providing organic coffee, which eliminates heavy chemicals, synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and more, providing you with a safe product and allowing you to gain a full experience by tasting the coffees organic character. By producing coffee in an environment with no chemicals or fertilizers, it means cleaner beans, air, land, and water!

There are many reasons as to why Wolfox uses only organic coffee beans for their speciality coffee; the main reason being that it can impact the farmers and those living within the area. The chemicals and fertilizers used can enter the water supply, causing life-threatening health risks. Not only this, but it can contribute to climate change by emitting carbon, which can have significant impacts on our future.

Instead, Wolfox uses organic beans to reduce their carbon footprint and provide you with the opportunity to enjoy your favourite drink guilt-free. This supports our coffee community and farmers that work hard to produce these exceptional coffee beans. It also means that you can enjoy a richer, wholesome cup of coffee.

Roasting Technology

Wolfox uses a unique roasting process to make sure that not only are their beans organic, but they also help to protect the environment by lowering their carbon footprint. We spoke with James and Andres from Wolfox who gave us some information on their roasting technology and process:

“We use specialist equipment that lets us control the drum speed and hot air; this allows us to roast the coffee using less gas and roast with more of the hot air that has been produced inside the roaster. By using this roaster, we are able to reduce our energy consumption while getting a better profile and more flavours.”

Ethiopia Single-Origin

These delicious Ethiopian beans have been grown at a high altitude of 1,800 to 2,100 metres above sea level in a region full of immense aromatic flavours and were produced by the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers’ Cooperative Union. The soil is 50% volcanic, which provides the beans with immense nutrition for a rich and flavoursome finish. Once ready, the ripe cherries are hand-picked, ensuring that only the best produce is used.

Experimenting with Ethiopia Single-Origin

For those that choose to have their coffee ground – they found the medium to fine grind perfect for drip, cafetiere and cold brew. In all cases, they got a burst of floral and fruity notes that can range from bergamot to coconut! What we love about Yirgacheffe is it’s ideal for both hot and cold brews. It creates a mellow coffee with a mild flavour – it’s clean, vibrant and versatile.

We’ve been enjoying this smooth Ethiopian offering both as an Americano and as a Cold Brew with a dash of milk or cream. For those that grind their own, a single shot espresso was best– it gives a real hit of chocolate and berry sweetness!

Guatemala Single-Origin

The Guatemala beans have been grown and produced by The Finca, which is owned by farmer Max Perez. They are grown at an altitude of 1,100km to 1,800 metres above sea level, and overlook two stunning volcanoes that nurture and nourish the coffee beans through the soil, which contains ashes from recent eruptions. This provides you with a truly organic product that offers a rich texture along with bright and floral flavours for the ultimate complex single-origin bean. The harvest period of these beans is between August and September, and once ready, are hand-picked and processed on the same day.

Experimenting with Guatemala Single-Origin

This was our first Guatemalan coffee, and it’s been worth the wait; this is a superb Catuai Arabica varietal – one of the best we’ve had over the past year! With this coffee, you’ll get a moderate level of acidity, and a lovely medium body and creamy mouth feel – it is superb for both espresso, milk-based drinks and filter.

The taste is really interesting and complex – it’s packed full of flavour and depending on how you prepare your coffee, you’ll get a mix of creamy, vanilla sweetness and the aroma of peach, apricot and cherry. We’ve been loving this as a double shot latte – and it pairs perfectly with the Triple Choc Delight from Lexi’s Treats!
